The balls of my feet sink into the carpet;
The way they always have.
My hands brush the back of that chair.
I watch the sunlight play through your crystal trinkets.
Home is reaching across the table and
Refilling the glasses,
Not pausing the flow.
It’s being pulled into you
On a Sunday morning and resting
Sleeping again.
It’s seeing my adventures on
The wall. My paintings
My carvings, the sketches,
All.
My plants free and happy
To grow.
It’s feeling like I will
Rather than I should.
It’s knowing that I can.
That I could.
A bike against a wall,
Autumn leaves when they fall
And the view of the sky
Through familiar rooftops,
When suddenly from it all
A piece of wire on a slate
Reminds you of birds flying high
A ball drifting into a road and small
Legs chasing.
This connection to another,
To a you much younger
Pulls something, recognition,
A clear vision.
The man on the bus knew
you wanted no fuss
but his nod, his slow blink
was enough.
Lift a face from the rush, from the noise
Tenderly.
Across a desert mattress reach that tip,
Enough to keep the energy flow
So that you know
You are connected.
Without words, we stand corrected.
This connection to another.
Involuntary. The baby that squeezes your face too hard.
Or, when you burst, and run.
Driven, yearning to be part of it.
The energy.
Not just the screen and me.
And PEACE, and HOME and FLOW x2
A stop for breath and yes.
You breathe and then you see
That pair of eyes,
The element of surprise when
That tree dances,
The person in that window has started
To sing while they are peeling,
That actually the ceiling has yellow paint
And a statues of a patron saint.
Of something forgotten.
A feeder of the needy
Veins in leaves, veins beneath your sleeves,
The ease of speech,
A heartbeat.
When the notes fall into place.
The trust I feel in your face.
When it rains and I walk with open arms
And feel that connection.
Of smoothed rocks,
Cycles flow.
Blood and roots.
Breath on my face.
Grace
Allowing me to be.
Look and feel
That hesitation, momentary contemplation.

Home. Connection.
A living place. A warmth. Stillness.
